Tell elected officials that the proposed Ecology Park could give communities a sustainable waste solution without compromising cost! Oppose legislation that stands in the way!

A proposed Ecology Park in Scott County could expand recycling accessibility across Tennessee, but big business interests are trying to shut it down!

This Ecology Park includes a sorting facility on-site where ALL waste shipped to a nearby landfill would be INTERCEPTED to REMOVE all recyclable materials. This is a unique, accessible option for communities that can't afford expensive recycling programs!

CURRENT, OUTDATED WASTE SOLUTIONS:

  • ALL trash is mixed together in one load. It is then trucked off and dumped directly into a landfill.

  • Communities that want to recycle must PAY EXTRA $$ to divert the waste to a separate sorting facility before the sorted materials are reloaded and trucked off a THIRD location.

NEW, SUSTAINABLE ECOLOGY PARK SOLUTION:

  • Communities across Tennessee can pay to send all of their waste, mixed together DIRECTLY to the Ecology Park just as they would to a typical landfill site.

  • Communities further away may have the option of using rail to ship their trash – which can sometimes be cheaper and more efficient.

  • ALL trash that arrives at the Ecology Park will be sorted for recyclables. Non-recyclable materials will be disposed of at the landfill next door – removing the extra costs for further transportation.

  • Entire communities can feel confident that more of their trash is being diverted AWAY from the landfill, while still only paying the cost of sending their pre-sorted trash to one single location.

Old, outdated landfill companies don’t want to see trash diverted away from their own facilities, and they are trying to BLOCK this new recycling initiative in the state legislature.
